Chapter 7
Prom Night From Hell?

Danny yawned as he walked down the stairs the next morning. He ran a hand through his hair and made his way to the kitchen to put the kettle on.

Danny jumped slightly, turning to face the voice. “You startled me,” he said. “I forgot you were here.”

Jazzie rolled her eyes at him and smiled. “Well, I’m here,” she said. “And what was that you were telling me last night about you and my brother not having sex every night?”

Danny opened and closed his mouth like a goldfish. “Uh,” he flushed.

Jazzie smirked at him. “It’s okay,” she replied. “But for the remainder of my stay, can you please keep the noises lower?”

Danny nodded face still red and he poured himself a cup of tea. “Sorry, Jazz,” he apologised.

A car horn sounded and there was a soft thump.

“Shit!” Dougie’s voice rang out from the living room.

“What?” Danny called back.

Dougie raced into the kitchen and kissed Danny on the lips. “I’ve got an exam in fifteen minutes,” he said. “I’ll see you later.”

He snatched the half eaten piece of toast from Jazzie’s hand, ignoring her cries of protest and leaving them in the kitchen

“Bye,” Danny and Jazzie said in unison.

“Bye,” Dougie called front door slamming behind him.

Danny chuckled and put some more bread in the toaster. “I’ll take you to school,” he said.

“Thanks,” Jazzie said with a smile, standing up and putting her breakfast dishes in the sink. She took the slice of toast that Danny offered her and headed back upstairs to get ready for school.

Jazzie’s prom night came all too soon. She was fretting over her hair, wanting to look perfect for her special night and she had Dougie and Harry holed up in the bathroom with her. Dougie was there to keep Harry from strangling his sister as he knew how demanding she could be and Harry was styling her hair to exactly how she wanted it.

Natalie had come over to help with Jazzie’s make up and was currently staring at her prom dress enviously.

“Okay, if Jazzie sees you looking at her dress like that, she’s going to think you want to eat it,” Danny chuckled as he approached his friend.

Natalie snapped out of her daydream and looked up at Danny. She flushed a little and smiled at him. “It’s a gorgeous dress.”

Danny nodded. “It is,” he replied. “How was your prom?” he asked.

“It was good,” she smiled. “I went with this guy called Andy. He was a real sweetie.”

“Was?” Danny questioned.

Natalie’s smile faded. “Yeah,” she said softly. “He, uh, killed himself during his first year of uni, couldn’t handle that his family didn’t like his preference in partners.”

Danny’s mouth formed a perfect ‘o’. “I’m sorry,” he said.

Natalie nodded. “Thanks. He was my best friend,” she paused. “After that, I met Riley and we started the GLBT group. I didn’t want anyone else going through what he went through with no support. It is hard for anyone coming out, but especially hard when those you care about don’t support you.”

Danny nodded. “It makes me glad that I never had that,” he started. “I came out when I was fairly young and all my friends and family were very supportive.”

“That’s how it should be,” Natalie replied.

Dougie entered Jazzie’s room a few moments later and said to Natalie that Jazzie was ready for her. Natalie nodded, smiled at them both one last time and joined Harry and Jazzie in the bathroom.

Dougie wrapped his arms around Danny’s waist and rested his head on his chest. “I am so glad I am not a female!”

Danny chuckled and placed a kiss on top of Dougie’s head. “Are you worn out, love?”

Dougie nodded. “I am looking forward to just you and me tonight,” he replied. “We can curl up on the couch and watch a good movie.”

“Sounds good,” Danny said with a grin. He dipped his head and kissed Dougie sweetly.

They headed down stairs to the living room and Harry joined them a few minutes later.

“My work here is done,” he said proudly. “Your sister looks stunning.”

“Harry, I am so glad you’re gay,” Dougie said with a smile.

Harry frowned.

“You’re like a stereotypical gay guy; you can do hair really well and have a great dress sense!” Dougie smiled at him.

Harry folded his arms. “Fashion is a must, and I just happen to be really good with my hands,” he replied. “Katherine used to let me play with her hair when we were younger.”

Dougie burst out laughing and pulled Harry in for a hug. “I’m glad you’re good with hair, it makes Jazzie happy.”

Harry’s frown disappeared and he hugged Dougie back. “Well, I’ll be off then, call me if there are any disasters.”

Dougie nodded. “Thank you,” he said with a smile.

“No problem,” Harry replied. He kissed Dougie gently on the lips followed by Danny before leaving their house.

“I think Jaz is going to have the best night,” Dougie said, wrapping his arms around Danny who nodded. “I know she’s going to have her prom next year, but prom for girls is so much more important than it is for guys.”

“I don’t doubt that she will have a great time,” Danny agreed.

An hour later, the doorbell rang and Danny got up to answer it. Justin stood there, smiling at him. Danny let the younger male in and he offered him a drink while they waited for Jazzie to be ready for them to go.

Natalie came down the stairs a while later, looking extremely pleased with herself. She announced Jazzie’s arrival into the living room and all three males stood mouths agape as they stared at her.

“Jaz,” Dougie breathed. “You look gorgeous!”

She shot him a dazzling smile. “Thanks,” she replied.

“You look amazing,” Justin said as he stepped forwards to kiss her on the cheek. “Are we ready to go?”

She nodded and they made their way for the front door but Dougie called out for Jazzie to wait and she did, telling Justin to go wait for her in the car.

“Here, take this in case you need anything,” Dougie whispered pressing a fifty pound note into her slim hand.

“Dougie!” Jazzie exclaimed. “I can’t take that.”

“We just want you to have it in case of an emergency,” Danny said from beside Dougie. “It’s better to be prepared.”

Dougie nodded in agreement. “Have a great night,” he said, giving her a tight hug. “I love you.”

“Love you too, Dougie,” Jazzie smiled at him and kissed his cheek.

Dougie walked her out to the car and Danny turned to Natalie. “Thank you for coming over,” he said.

“My pleasure,” she smiled.

“Did you want to stay for dinner?” Danny asked. “Dougie and I were going to cook a stir fry.”

Natalie smiled. “That would be nice,” she replied. “I’ll go and get Riley.”

Danny nodded and kissed her cheek as she left their house. Dougie came back in and Danny said he had invited Natalie and Riley to stay for dinner.

The pair set about making the dinner for the four of them and had finished preparing their dinner when Natalie and Riley came back. The four of them soon sat down to their meal, chatting about everything and anything and laughing happily.

After they had finished eating, Danny and Riley did the dishes while Natalie and Dougie headed to the living room to relax.

“Did you guys want dessert?” Danny asked sticking his head in the living room.

“Oh, yes please,” Natalie said with a smile.

Danny grinned at her and looked at Dougie who nodded. He headed back into the kitchen where he and Riley dished up some cake and ice cream for all of them.

Danny handed his lover a bowl and spoon and squished in next to him on the large arm chair. Riley chuckled at them and sat next to Natalie on the couch. The four of them got comfortable and talked over their dessert.

“Are you ready for your exams?” Natalie asked.

Dougie nodded with a smile and Danny nodded as well.

“I’ve already had one,” Dougie said. “I have two more next week and then I’m done for the year.”

“I have three next week,” Danny said. “I think I’m prepared.”

Riley smiled at them both. “You’ll both do fine, you’ve got great marks so far this year, the exams will be a piece of cake,” she grinned and held up her spoon which had a large piece of cake on it then she popped it in her mouth.

“I think I’m more worried about what project Mike is going to give me next,” Dougie admitted. “Since working for him, I have done some things I never would have dreamed of before, painted things I thought were impossible to do.”

“But you did it though,” Natalie smiled softly at him. “The work you do is amazing. You should be proud.”

“I am,” Dougie nodded. “I just never thought it was possible.”

“It always seems impossible until it’s done,” Riley pointed out.

“As long as you love what you do,” Natalie said. “That’s all that should matter.”

Dougie nodded. “I do love it, painting is my passion.”

Danny grunted.

“Apart from you,” Dougie smiled and kissed Danny lightly on the lips.

“Damn straight,” Danny muttered with a grin.

“Aww, so cute,” Natalie grinned.

They continued to talk about their exams and what they were going to do for the holidays that were coming up in a short few weeks. Danny and Dougie were planning to go on a small trip together to Scotland to relax for a week sometime in the middle of their holidays. Dougie wanted to keep working as he would have time to focus solely on his art without the interruptions of school.

Natalie and Riley said they were going to Australia for the month of July to visit Riley’s family and have a bit of a break from everything. When they were due to come back, Natalie would start work full time at the lawyers she worked for now and Riley would keep writing her novel on the side while she worked at the book store she worked part-time at now.

“So, want to stick on a movie?” Natalie asked a long while later.

The three other occupants of the living room nodded and she got up to scan the DVD collection. Selecting one, Natalie put it in the DVD player. They all settled in their seats and The Notebook came on the screen.

Not even half way through the movie, Jazzie came home with Justin, causing them to realise just how late it was getting.

“Did you have a good night?” Dougie asked as she approached them.

“I did, it was great,” she whispered. “We’re going up to my room for a while; to listen to some music and stuff.”

Dougie nodded and kissed his sister’s cheek. “Just call out if you need anything.”

Jazzie nodded and took Justin’s hand, leading him up the stairs. Danny kept his eyes on his lover as he watched her retreating form. He gently kissed Dougie’s lips when the artist looked back at him. The pair smiled and focused their attention back on the television screen.

By the end of the movie, Danny’s eyes had welled up and his did his best to wipe them away before anyone saw.

“Are you okay, Dan?” Dougie whispered.

Danny nodded, taking a deep breath and tipping his head back, not wanting his lover to see that he was crying over a film.

“Danny,” Dougie breathed. “It’s just a movie, love.”

“I know,” Danny replied.

Dougie’s hand reached up to cup his cheek and he gently brought Danny’s face in line with his. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too,” Danny replied. Their lips met in a soft kiss, Dougie’s hand stroking his cheek slowly.

“We might go,” Natalie said. “It’s getting quite late.”

Danny and Dougie both nodded, standing up to walk their friends out.

“Thanks for having us for dinner,” Riley said with a smile.

Danny grinned. “Anytime,” he said honestly.

“I never knew you were a crier in movies, Dan,” Natalie joked.

“He’s not normally,” Dougie replied. “He’s usually quite impartial to what goes on.”

Danny made a face, causing the other three to laugh. “It was a sad movie,” he protested.

“We know, hon, we know,” Riley smiled.

There was a moment silence between them and in that moment, they heard a noise that they hoped never to hear again.

Jazzie screamed out Dougie’s name like she was completely petrified and Dougie sprinted up the stairs to her room in mere seconds. Danny was right behind him and saw his blond lover burst through the door to his sister’s room.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as soon as he entered the room. Jazzie was struggling underneath Justin and he was trying to pull down his trousers and lift her dress simultaneously, scratching her thighs roughly in the process. Danny saw red and ripped him off Jazzie’s prone form. He punched Justin straight in the face and Dougie fell to the floor with his crying sister. Justin threw a few punches back at Danny and the Bolton male was restrained by Natalie while Riley held back Justin.

The fiery red head shoved Justin from the house and Danny fell to Jazzie’s side with his lover. She flinched at his touch and he backed away, not wanting to cause her anymore stress.

Her prom dress was torn, and her mascara was running down her cheeks in black streaks. Her hair was a mess and she was sobbing into Dougie’s shoulder uncontrollably. Dougie held his sister tightly and Riley was on her phone making a report to the police.

Danny was at a loss of what to do, Jazzie flinched at his touch so he couldn’t be there to comfort her and Dougie was holding onto his sister like she was going to fade away if he let go.

Natalie entered the room with some warm wash cloths and Danny didn’t even realise that she had gone. She knelt next to the sobbing teen and she gently wiped the mess off her face and the scratch marks on her thighs.

Jazzie’s crying subsided enough for Natalie to clean her up and she held onto the older woman tightly as she was cleaned up.

Riley’s hand fell on Danny’s shoulder and she looked at him sympathetically. She understood exactly what he was thinking without him having to say anything at all.

The police arrived half an hour later and Jazzie had to give a statement, Dougie holding her hand the entire time. She managed to tell them everything that had happened without too much crying. They asked if she wanted to press charges and Jazzie shook her head telling them she just wanted it to be over with. Dougie supported her choice and after another half an hour of questions, they left.

Natalie and Riley said they would sleep over and Jazzie nodded, not wanting to feel unprotected. Dougie and Danny lead her to their room and the two siblings got into bed after giving Jazzie an oversized t-shirt and a pair of clean boxers for her to sleep in. Dougie curled up next to his sister, holding her tightly.

Danny shut off the light and headed back down the stairs where Natalie and Riley were making up the fold out bed for themselves. Danny made sure they had everything and thanked them for staying and got a glass of water for Jazzie before heading back up the stairs.

He crept into his and Dougie’s room and placed the glass of water on the bed side table. He gently stroked Jazzie’s hair out of her face and placed a soft kiss to her forehead. She didn’t flinch at his touch, but Danny could tell she was holding it back. Making his way around to the other side of the bed, Danny kissed Dougie softly and said he would sleep in Jazzie’s bed for the night.

Dougie nodded and Danny left the room once again. As he climbed into the single bed in Jazzie’s room, he couldn’t help but notice that it was the first time in over a year that he would be sleeping by himself.

Poor Jazzie! =( Her prom ruined.

And can't help but feel sorry for Danny. He wants to help, but he can't. And Poor Dougie for having that happen to his sister. And Poor Andy. And Poor Natalie... and poor Riley.

I still love this story, though. Even if it is sad. =D

Good going, Danny! You should have like thrown him out the window or something.

And awww, The Notebook :')
It really is a sappy film. No wonder why Danny got a bit emo.

And he would be sleeping alone.

Weird, even with Jazzie almost getting raped, I was like 'Aw, Danny!' when he had to sleep alone.

Love, love, love this =D <3

Oh he wanted to, believe me he wanted to

Yeah, it is sad =(

Jazzie needed the comfort though. I felt a bit bad for Danny because she couldn't stand to have a male (apart from Dougie) touch her. Very traumatic.

Thanks, I'm glad you like!!
ponnisponnis on March 22nd, 2008 11:49 pm (UTC)
And I totally get him!

Great film, though :)

Yeah, well of course she did!
And I sorta understand why she didn't want anybody else touching her. /:
God, poor Danny. He wants to help, but he can't. :(
